Digital economy, a new future

He Ping 2022.03.12

China will strengthen overall planning for the Digital China initiative, build more digital information infrastructure, and apply 5G technology on a larger scale, according to this year's government work report.

He Ping, the Deputy Dean of the School of Economics and Management at Tsinghua University, shared with People's Daily his observations about China's development of digital economy via video link.

He pointed out that the advantage of China has on applying digital technology for economic growth is its large population of internet users, but added that "we need to make a lot of investment on the national level to make sure we have enough infrastructure for digital transformation."

With the acceleration of innovation in technologies such as the internet, big data, cloud computing, artificial intelligence and block-chain, the development of the digital economy is undergoing unprecedented changes and is becoming a key force in reshaping the global economic structure and changing the global competition landscape.

"It's a very exciting, and a new future for us with the development of digital technology," he said.
